Overview

Bidz.com is a leading online jewelry auction site which was established in February 1999. They are headquartered in Los Angeles, California and are made up of 200 employees. Bidz offers consumers very competitive pricing by bringing together both manufacturers and wholesalers in one auction site. In 2006, Bidz generated over 2.9 million orders in with an average order size of $130 per order.

Approach

In an effort to rapidly grow online sales for Bidz, Direct Agents identified key email partners which fit the client’s target demographic and who had shown success with other e-commerce advertisers. All mailings started off with test buys to a small sample of the list followed by rollouts to larger parts of list based on sales generated.

In addition to email CPM list rental, Direct Agents also launched a lead generation program to help register new users at Bidz.com. The program aimed at converting registered users to eventual customers at the Bidz auction site.

Results

Direct Agents is an integral part of Bidz’s email strategy, and manages dozens of ongoing email list rentals monthly. In the first month of the lead generation campaign, Direct Agents generated over 4500 new customer registrations. Over 75% of new registrants completed a transaction within their first month of membership. Based on the test results, Direct Agents has greatly expanded the campaign and is on pace to increase registrations by 100% every month.
